The Postdoc will be a key member of the team, undertaking research within the remit of the overall scientific plan of the Genome Project and also undertaking original independent research in the subject area of population scale genomics. The Postdoc will work closely with the Project Director, genomic scientists, genetic counsellor and team.

KEY ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
Essential Functions:
Undertake research under supervision in accordance with the Genome Project scientific plan as a research team/project member.
Provide guidance to other staff and students on own specialist area.
Plan and develop independent, original contributions to the general population genomics subject area, using methodologies, critical evaluations, interpretations, analyses, and other techniques appropriate to this type of research.
Publish research in appropriate journals etc. and present work at conferences.
Engage in scholarly activity e.g. participate in conferences; apply for external funding, contribute to writing bids for research grants, prepare book reviews and publishing teaching/professional materials.
Other:
Participates with the PI and study team to identify and prioritize the development of systems and infrastructure to maintain research quality and compliance.
Manage personal administrative tasks related to own work.
Contribute to the effective management and administration of the Genome Project in performing routine duties allocated by line manager.
Limited supervisory responsibilities initially, although this will be reviewed as the project team grows.
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS – SELECTION CRITERIA
Education
Essential
PhD in genetics and genome biology, computational biology or related fields.
Experience
Essential
Experience in working with long read genome data (DNA and mRNA).
At least three (3) years’ relevant research experience and depth of knowledge of the subject area and research methods and techniques, where appropriate, to work within established research programs.
Job Specific Skills and Abilities
Essential
Computational skills in writing code (i.e. java/python) to manipulate and analyze large scale high throughput genomic dataset.
Experience in long read genome alignment, variant calling, and tertiary genome analysis (i.e. de novo assembly, phasing).
Ability to communicate complex information clearly in both written and verbal contexts, and to encourage commitment to learn in others.
Detail-oriented and meticulous in all aspects of work.
Strong follow through skills and ability to proactively identify and solve problems; demonstrated initiative is imperative.
Must have professional demeanor, strong communication skills with the project team and participants.
Ability to work well independently as well as in team environment.
Strong interpersonal, customer service and multi-tasking skills are critical.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Word and Excel, electronic health systems and databases used in research environment, or have a willingness to learn and demonstrate proficiency within six months of hire.
Possess the ability to work well under pressure, multi-task, and manage deadlines.
